1st Gen Replacement Windshield

I have a 1987 Toyota 4Runner with a cracked windshild. Originally it had the chrome trim, but currently has the rubber gasket that never sealed correctly.

I need to find a windshield installer in Middle Tennessee that can replace my windshield and deal with the seal. Can anyone offer info on a good installer in the area?

Background:

A while back I had a cracked windshield. My 4Runner had the chrome trim. I read here (and elsewhere?) of going with a rubber gasket set instead.

I *met* a windshield installer on T4R.org that said he could do it, so I contacted him and made arrangements. He came down to Tucson from Phoenix and removed the old windshield and chrome trim, THEN realized he had the wrong replacement glass. After a couple of hours he located what he believed was the right glass and stuggled mightily to install it. It leaked from day one.

Now I'm in Murfreesboro TN with much more rainfall. The leak is becoming a real problem. The glass has since cracked. Fortunately, I do have zero decuctible on the T4R so I can get it done under insurance if I can find someone competent to do it.

Thx,
Jon

Call the local Toyota dealer and ask who their glass man is. Call them.

hmmm... In Cali, there are several mobile windshield installers. They'd go wherever you are to replace windshield. You mean this service is hard to find in TN? Or it's just classic Runner glass that's hard to find?

I think the trip is purely aesthetic. I do not like it trim- it catches and retains water (worse if it's saltwater) and encourages rusting.
The trim does not really waterproof. The key to waterproofing is the kind of adhesive/seal they use so that's all I want. IF you end up not putting a trim, pls post pic of resulting gap.
