1st Gen 4Runner: Factory Double stack console?

I keep seeing pics on here where it appears that some folks have a second level of their center console on top of the base (as in the pic below). Is this some type of factory option?

Wondering what I search for to get one.

Thanks,
Mike

Yep...they're very similar to the newer consoles.

now that i think about it, i dont believe that 1st gen runners came with that style console since they had the rear seat heater mounted in it.

My 87 has that. No rear heater. The rear heaters take up that lower storage space.

Mine has the heater in it and nice padded lid (SR5). Can't tell from the pics, but they looks as tall as mine, plus that extra level.

No rocket science here guys.......It's the factory console WITHOUT reare heat. The lower section that isn't needed for the blower is actually freed up for STORAGE. I got mine for my 87 xtra cab from a 94 4Runner.

I'd say it was brain surgery but it would require a part to work ON...

Can I put one in an 87 and keep my heating unit? My console is just too little storage space but I want to keep the factory heating unit!

Uh......what part of "it uses the space that was taken up by the rear heater for storage" doesn't compute? You can't have your cake and eat it too! Choose this day who you will serve: the rear heat or more storage space? Since I can't sit in be back and drive at the same time it was a no brainer for me........

Yes it uses the heater section for storage space. I could be wrong, but from what I can tell, there is double storage space, the lower and upper stacks. The lower stack would be non functioning if there is a heater obviously, but the upper stack is above the heater space and it looks to me like that would fit right on top of my heater unit, thus allowing for both.

Tell that to my wife. She insists on driving from whatever seat she is in.

You are correct. It appeared that you were referring to the large lower section. You do retain the small upper storage but I guess if you have nothing but the rear heater there now anything would be a benefit.
I know where there's a burgundy one in a yard here if you need one.

I have been looking everywhere for a burgandy one with the heater in it. How can I convince you to go pull it for me? At least give me the name of the yard that has it. Maybe they would be willing to pull it and ship it to me.
