1st gen 4Runner 86 exhaust.

Hey all. My 86 toyota 4runner just has a 2 chamber flowmaster that dumps out under the driver seat. when i let down my rear window while driving i get a overwhelming exhaust smell. if i take and run the exhaust all the way back and turn it out the side like factory can i then ride with the window down with out the smell?

Yes. Well, unless you are going fast in reverse and the fumes catch ya.

Mine goes out the side at the stock exhaust location, and it comes back in a little if I am throttling it. It is not overwhelming, though- only seems to happen about half the time and pretty minimal. I usually run with my rear window about half way up to prevent it

Have fun with the welding. Make sure you do it like I do and wear shorts, sandals, and a tshirt Easy way to get a tan. And some cancer

I run the stock exhaust with the hatch window down it will suck the exhaust fumes in.

Some people it does not bother as much as others.

Me it bothers I know just by the smell my window is down.

Every 4runner I have driven has done this

I think your going to spend the time for little gain

Interesting....I must be one of the people that it doesn't bother or just didn't notice it when driving a friends 88 or 89 4Runner last summer, with the rear window down, for several days.

are you running a cat? it shouldn't have that overwhelming of an odor with a good cat.

Nope no cat. Straight from a header turns back to a flow master then nothing.

Some of us it just bothers more.

If I really wanted there is no doubt a scientific reason it happens .

I notice it on the 92 4runner with the 3.4 as well
