Question 1st & 2nd Gen SR5 Chrome Fender Lip Moldings Interchangeable?

I got my 1st gen painted, but the chrome SR5 moldings have a few dents. Took them to a couple repair shops and they can't fix them unless I remove the "glued-on" black plastic paint protection lip. If I remove them, they will tear, but the trim repair shops cannot remove the dings without that black plastic lip removed.

I guess this is a two part question:
-Has anyone had any luck removing small dents from their SR5 fender trim?
-Are the 2nd gen chrome SR5 fender moldings the same as the 1st gen?
1st gen moldings microfiche
2nd gen moldings microfiche
According to the part numbers (above) they are the same. Can anyone confirm before I buy a whole damn 2nd gen parts truck just for the fender lip moldings? lol

I removed some dents from mine. YouTube has video on how-to.
I don’t understand the problem with removing. Was the vehicle painted with molding in place? Did they paint the black rubber lip seal? Otherwise, it just unscrews.

Do you have a link you can share?
Removing the molding is EZ, but nobody wants to fix the dents unless I remove the rubber lip that is glued to them. If I remove the rubber, it will tear and then how do I re-attach without making a mess.

Ah, ok. Now I better understand the seal issue.
Go to YouTube and enter “ removing dents from chrome trim”

I don’t think you can remove the black strip and expect to successfully reattach it. I also think the shops plan to buff it as part of the resto and that will likely damage the strip anyway. I did a lot of work on mine. Not perfect but much better now. I would buy a whole new set if available. Sell the old ones for decent money.

After looking at some pics of second gen 4r’s, no way are they the same. They are larger and rounder and the black part is at least twice the size on 2nd gens.
