1993 SR5 4x4 A/C symptom

Hello all, I switched my truck over to the new refrigerant for obvious reasons. I did that probably 10 years ago. Here's what I've been scratching my head about. I don't drive much. Less than 20 miles a week. I also live in a pretty warm (hot and humid) part of the country. Just some background. When the truck sits for a couple days I get in it and the A/C does a pretty good job. (Considering it's over 30 years old). I'll stop somewhere (grocery store, haircut, golf course....etc) and when I get back in the truck the A/C sucks..........most of the time after about 5 or 6 miles it will start to spit cooler air again but not as cool as at the beginning of the day trip. I just want to reach out and hear if anyone has been through this or is it like most my life just live with it? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, and keep yourself and your family safe.

I originally didn’t have AC so I don’t know what it was like with R-12, as you are stating mine is about the same, cool morning it starts to blow cold quick, I get out and about driving it’s fine, sitting in traffic with no flow and RPM’s it can suck, highway, it freezes my nipples. After sitting and getting real hot it takes a while to cool off. So, would r-12 be better? Probably, can I get it easy and is it worth hunting down, no. I’ve always wondered if getting a secondary electric fan would help the low RPM issue but I just haven’t got that brave to do all the work and it doesn’t really help….has it always been mediocre since you changed to 134? Or is it recent you noticed it’s kinda blah?

My guess is you're low on refrigerant. These gauges worked well for me: https://www.harborfreight.com/r134a-...set-58776.html

Here's everything I know about A/C: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-r134a-284801/
