1993 4runner rebuild - plate between engine and trans

1993 4runner SR5, 3.0v6, 4WD.

Going back together after complete engine rebuild. Everything went perfect and dropped the motor back in. Tightened all trans bolts and motor mounts, then realized I forgot the plate between engine and transmission. (I think it needs to be installed prior to bolting on flex plate/fly wheel to crank) Before I take it back out, im trying to figure out if I need it. The flex plat does not seem to be jamed against torque converter. I think the starter will be fine as well. All we can think of is the seal behind the torque converter. The plat is 1/16 " thick and we are worried that without the plate, the engine would push the torque converter back 1/16 and it may put pressure on the front transmission seal. I have no experience with transmissions - does anyone have any experience with this?? Your comments/help would be greatly appreciated (a few of those bolts were not easy to get to!!)

It's there to keep the inside of the bell housing clean and free of major debris. Obviously it won't do much for dust, but you don't want a piece of gravel getting in there and wedging itself somewhere where there isn't enough room for it. I'd say do it right, install the plate, and you'll feel better about it.
