1993 4Runner "Jerk" / RPM dropping after Knock Sensor fix?
1993 4Runner SR5 V6 3.0
After the head gaskets blew going down the highway, did a complete rebuild. Top to bottom. After installation had code 21 - O2 sensor - which, I think, was there prior to rebuild. The CEL was on and I was told the code was 21, but didn't pull it myself.
Along with code 21 after the rebuild, was getting code 52. Found a lot of information in this forum regarding the solution, and rewired the KS which cleared code 52 and restored tons of power. Code 21 remains, and currently soaking the O2 sensor bolts to remove/replace tomorrow.
After the rebuild, my truck was 'jerking', for lack of a better term. If I accelerated hard, nothing. If I gradually increased speed, once the RPM hit about 2000, would drop sharply to 1300-1500. Felt like engine would just cut out for a second.
This also happened if trying to maintain a constant speed throughout town if that speed meant the RPMs would hover around the 2000 range. Again, would drop. So wasn't happening only on acceleration. Did not notice it as much at highway speed.
After reading this forum, was thinking the KS would restore the power and stop the jerking. It fixed the power, not the jerking.
Any suggestions? I've found some data on here that could point to the ignition coil, but not getting a code for that. If the new O2 sensor doesn't help, I'd really appreciate any guidance in pointing me in the next logical step.
Thanks,
