Just switched blocks on a 22re and now I have code 52 which is rpm sensor.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot? -- if I need to add more info just let me know

 

Code 52 is actually the knock sensor circuit. Read through this thread to get a pretty good idea of what to do:

Ok so this is what I have tried.

New harness and wire for the sensor.

Chased threads with correct tap.

Tried two other sensors.

Ran a new wire from ecu to sensor.

Relocated sensor to engine hook.





None of this kept the light from coming on.


Question though: does code come up ONLY if there is no signal ( bad ground etc ) ??

Or will the code come up if it detects a knock?

If I just put around and not rap the motor out the light stays off. Soon as I rap the motor out it comes on. Then I shut the key off and then back on it goes off.




This new block chatters but it just sounds to me like it's noises from the head. Would that set the code off?

I'm starting to think
This block is noisy enough to trip it. It's high mile I'm sure the timing
Chain went and ate the cover on it's last set up.

At my wits end here. Anyone want to buy a truck?? Haha

 

As far as I know, the code is thrown if the ECU gets NO signal from the knock sensor, OR if it gets a perpetual knock from the sensor meaning, the engine's knocking and the ECU has tried but failed to do something about it. Sometimes this is caused by the timing being off or something else messing up the engine's performance.

 

Anyone else know more or any ideas what to do?

Can you cut the plug off and replace it for a crushed knock sensor plug or does it need to be new all the way to the ECM ? Dang ole code 52 !!

 

Sounds like you've pretty much ruled out any fault in the circuit and sensor. Since you hear noise when you drive, it must be what's setting the code. Did u mean it's making valve noise mechanically or pre-detonating from timing ( or bad gas)?

Code 52 has nothing to do with whether the engine is knocking (or rattling or banging or whatever). Code 52 is set when the sensor signal is not received by the ECU. It is rarely a defective sensor, and it's almost always a wiring issue.
