1990 Toyota pickup, 7ft bed to 6ft bed.

Okay, first off Idk if this is the right spot or not but I'm on off my phone and its a bit confusing.

Now, I have around a 7 foot bed and I'm going to get a bed tomorrow that is around 6 foot, I'm wondering what kind of troubles I'm going to run into if any when I convert it.

Truck:
1990 Toyota pickup single cab, 4x4.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

You have a 1990 std cab long box and you want a short box??? Are u mad lol. 1989 to 95 std cab long boxes are very rare. Atleast ive only ever seen one and i have a 2door 4runner which people say is rare though ive seen ten here in canada.

If you for real have long box 4x4 you cant hack it shorter please!!!! Lol. Just sell it or trade it for a short box! Hell id buy it off you just to save it haha

Toyota made the long bed longer infront of the rear wheels, so the beds are not compatible.

Lol, it has a pretty decent size dent in passenger side, and a few small rust holes in the back. If you're in the Florida area, after I've swapped you can have it.

Have always been a fan of short beds, dunno why.

Move your axle forward, which would be a ton of work, and then also have your drive shaft shortened or get a drive shaft from a short bed truck. Oh ya and the long bed gas tank is larger than the short box so it would interfere with the axle once moved forward, so you would need the smaller gas tank from a short box too. And you would probably run into a few other things that i'm forgetting.

When I read through this thread awhile back(which I thought I'd posted in actually...huh?), I wanted to find the pics I have of the only 3rd generation 4WD long bed I've ever seen to show you. But I couldn't find them at the time. Then I finally remembered where they were here a few days ago. Now I've got them all lined up and ready to go.

BTW, they only made them from 89-92. So there are no 93-95 4WD long bed pickups(which's one of the reasons why they're so rare). And FYI, ALL 4WD long bed pickups are regular cab, regardless of the year they were made(79-92). So there are no 4WD Xtra cab long bed pickups. Basically, there are only 3 types of 79-95 4WD pickup bodies. Short bed, Long bed, and Xtra cab(if you think about it...it makes sense...because it's true).

Anywho, why not upgrade this thread with some pics of such a rare beast? Still sounds like a good idea to me. Better late than never I say!

89-92 3rd generation 4WD long bed next to my 88 2nd generation 4WD long bed.

Where I live there are tons of them. Every lawn service in town has several of them. And I see a lot of them when I go across the border to Mexico. But I have yet to see a 2-door 4runner in person, all depends on the area I guess.

you could also find an xtra cab to bolt on with that shortbed. easier than cutting the frame.
