1990 4Runner No Compression V6

Lost all compression to all cylinders. Found timing belt intact but with the crankshaft timing mark at TDC, the camshaft marks are off at about 10 oclock. The distributor rotor is also off. If I line up the camshaft marks at 12 oclock, the distributor rotor is aligned at #1 but the crankshaft is off about 1/4 turn. So like what slipped and how do I correct and prevent it from happening again?

replace the timing belt, water pump, cam crank seals, tensioner and tensioner pulley and idler pulleys and line up the cam and crank when you replace the belt.

Yup, the timing belt went slip, slip, slipping away. And not just one or two teeth, but a whole bunch. Lucky for you it is not an interference motor, nothing damaged, just need to do the belt and all the other stuff mentioned above.

Have fun.

If you don't know when the water pump was done last, should do it while you're in there.

I had the same problem on a 93 4Runner years ago, and I found this when I took the crank pulley off. Probably caused by someone not torquing the crank bolt correctly after a previous timing belt job.
