1989 pickup 4x4 22RE CV Joints
Hey guys, Im going to be buying a 4x4 pickup soon, and I test drove a 89 4x4 with the 22RE engine, well the truck has 76k miles on it, and has some rust underneath, but not bad for a 89, Anyway, when i had the truck in 2WD i turn the wheel as far left as i could and did a circle, i heard the clicking type sound you usually hear when the CV joint is bad, but then i tried the same thing going to the right and got the same sound, Do these trucks have bump stoppers or what could it be making that sound, when you do right circles and left?
Thanks for the tips guys, and if you have any tips on usual things to look for when looking at trucks this old let me know.

Check the CV boots for cracks or breaks that let the grease out. And grease the steering stops on the front and rear of both steering knuckles while you're there. The steering stops will make a bunch of noise at full turn if they're dry.

Bugs1961,
Thanks for the fast response, That makes a lot of sense, Thanks for the advice, I will check that out. I'm glad to hear that about the steering stops being noisy if they're dry.
Thanks
Robert
