1988 4 runner heater controls

I got the task of repairing what others had fixed. I'm wondering which cable goes to the door over the fan motor. I would call it the recirculation/fresh air door? After having the heater core installed by a "pit crew" now the truck won't get warm inside. When you push the lever over to hot (red), the door over the fan motor opens also. I'm not sure if this is correct operation or not but doesn't seem logical. I looked at the FSM and couldn't find any info on where the cables go. Can someone open up their glovebox and look at the fan motor and tell me which lever is supposed to work that door?
Thanks
Paul

The flap by the fan motor is for fresh air/recirculation. The hot/cold lever controls a flap on the heater core housing and the heater control valve. It is probably not getting hot because the cable is going to the wrong flap.

Make sure that the valve on your firewall is opening also (the one that shuts off the flow of coolant to the heater core).

Many thanks gentlemen

I found the dash vent actuator was not connected and two cables were mixed up. She gets good and hot now. Thanks for the information. It's Newcastle Brown Ale time.
