1988 22RE Throttle Position Sensor Behavior?

Trying to track down problems with my '88 pickup*. Checking the TPS, I see resistance between E2 and TPA going from about 80 ohms when closed, increasing as I gradually open the throttle, until it goes to infinity at about 1/3-1/2 open. Shop manual says it should be 3.3K - 10.0K at wide open throttle. Does this mean my TPS is toast? If so, would that cause my problems?

Also the check engine light is now lit, and I get a TPS code 4.1 (and a VSS code 4.2), which I didn't before taking a bunch of stuff apart for testing & cleaning.

*Rough running, no power, won't go above 30 mph or so, Posted a question about it several months ago.

Answering my own question: apparently the E2-TPA resistance going to infinity is correct behavior. At least the new TPS I bought behaved the same way. (But was the later version with the rotor arms turned 90 degrees, so I couldn'rt use it anyway. Back to trying to figure out the problem...)
