1988 22RE ECU giving multiple codes

hey guys. so i have had a check engine light on lately and last time i had my mechanic pull the code for me it was just one thing but dont remember what it was. so i had him pull it once more today and he came up with 17 codes... yes 17 codes (24,25,27,31,35,41,42,43,51,52,53,71 + a few more which were random) and he has never seen this many and said he wouldn't even know where to start.

what my question is... has anybody ever seen this many codes. and i believe its my ECU that is bad... somehow? the weird part is the truck runs great! just the CEL comes on have 30sec of running.

when i have looked at diagrams of my ECU (part number-89661-35110) practically all of the codes that i got were listed on the diagram.

ECU? are they all real existing problem? or is a half Shark half Python somehow get inside my ECU and playing games with my <3?

serious help!

1. You don't need a mechanic to pull the codes for you, or any kind of special tools other than a paperclip.

2. No, I never have. I find it almost impossible to believe truthfully.

3. Codes on the diagrams? I don't know which ones you mean, but you kind find them all here. http://ncttora.com/fsm/87-4Runner/to...4runner_88.pdf

4. If the truck runs great with that many codes, I'd start thinking it was the ECU too.

5. Cool! Now I've got Dr. Octagon Halfsharkalligatorhalfman stuck in my head at 7 am.

oh im aware i dont need a mechanic to pull codes. sometimes its just easier that way because we use him for our whole company fleet and doesnt charge me for basic stuff, or i goto him when i cant figure something out (for example) im half tempted to ask one of my buddys with an 88 base model if i can put their ECU in and see if the problems get fixed.

Im glad its stuck in your head
