ok so i was driving it 2 days ago and my trucks fan/water belt broke and i pulled over and my XXXXX (name with held) told me that i can drive without out it and i did. i drove it to work and back, so about 20 miles. and i got home and my dad said that i needed it so i got one and put it on and i drove it and it ran like crap and i got a new air filter today and put it in and i got plugs and i was gonna put them in tonight and i was driving home and it wouldnt go faster then like 45 and it has a tick and my exhaust pipe has a hole and the pipe was red hot and when i pulled in to my house it lost all power and my gas tank was blowing out evaporated gas.

what happened?
what do i do?
how do i fix it?
did i crack my head or what?

 

oh and the truck was not overheating either. i dont know what happened but i need to fix it.

 

Check your cat, might be plugged... Which belt was it...

 

it was the fan belt. (the big one)

 

just went out and looked at it some more and it was so hot it burnt a huge hole in the header

 

Check the cat!!! Or your engine overheated and got everything super hot.

 

theres very little oil left in it too. we just put like 2 and a half bottles in. i defintley need an exhaust manifold. i think the trucks not getting any power though cause i might have burned out a fuse???

Who ever XXXX is, well threir retarded and you by defualt are too ( sorry to be blunt). The belt that you were running without powers your water pump. So water wasn't actually moving through your block to cool it off. So the coolant at the temp gauge sending unit may have been normal but the coolant in the other parts of you engine may have turned to lava!!!!!! The coolant wasn't flowing so thehot parts over heated and the not so hot parts stayed normal.

 

I'm afraid if you lost the water pump belt you are toast. You need a new engine I would think- do a compression test.

I assume it is a 4 cyl 22RE? The 3.0V6 fan belt just runs the fan, the water pump runs off the timing belt I think.

 

sounds like the engine is definitely toast. cross your fingers, hope its a head gasket. but it sounds like your engine is big time miss firing too, and burning up that cat. compression test it, but im sure you will get very little if anything, i guess if you wanted to, unbolt the cat on back, and drive it, loud as hell, but see if you get any more power with that off. there are exhaust back pressure testing you can do, with a vacuum pump, but, i guess all you really have to do is look into your radiator, and do the compression test. and they may point at a blown engine.

well i dont know what it was but my dad managed to fixed and then we got new basic stuff like cap, wires, rotor, and cap and also a muffler and it runs better then ever. just need to figure out why it burns threw oil now.

 

because you burned up your rings and valve seals.

 

it burned oil before but not as much. are rings and valve seals something i should take it to get done or is it something i could do myslef?

 

there not to hard but not to be mean and didnt know you cant drive with out a fan belt then i would sayu talk to your dad about a rebuild on the old girl i have the same motor and truck just did mine and it was easy but ive been working on cars for years now

 

barring any other problems, for the most part, rings can be done without removing the block from the chassis but if you've never done it and the cylinders need honed it's best to take the block to the machine shop.
replacing valve seals requires removing the head, which means checking for warpage, head gasket replacement and while you're at it probably lap the valves again (at least).

I hate to say it, but if you don't know what v-belt drives your water pump, and coincidentally your fan at the same time, you might not know enough about your engine or engine mechanics to work on it this deeply. On the other hand, having learned this the hard way, maybe you're the perfect person to work on it. Hard to say... considering the innate 'once bitten-twice shy' mentality true enthusiasts seem to have.
