1986 Pickup Kickdown detent cable

I'm looking for a kickdown detent cable for my 1986 Toyota pickup four-wheel drive automatic transmission, 22rec.

If you have one or know where to send me, it would be much appreciated. I thank you for your time.

History: had transmission rebuilt three years ago. Could not find a new cable then so they "repaired" the existing one. Tranny still good I just need a decent cable.
Will one from a 1986 4runner work as well? Any place to have them custom-made?

Welcome to YotaTech.

Hmmm. If I needed a part for a Toyota, I might consider trying the dealer. But that's just me.

Since you don't have a "kickdown" or "detent" cable, I assume you're looking for the Throttle Cable Assembly. (A kickdown cable triggers a downshift. Your downshifts are controlled by the ECM; the throttle cable determines how hard the transmission shifts.)

According to that dealer, (click the "What this fits" tab), it's the same part Pickup/4Runner, from 1984-1995. The part does vary by body type, so you will be much happier if you take your VIN with you when to go to/call a dealer.

Thank you for your reply. I did this search 3 years when we temporarily repaired the kickdown cable after rebuilding the tranny. They are no longer made. I have checked everywhere on the internet and emailed toy head as well as countless others. A kickdown detent cable is different than a throttle cable.

He gave you a link to the part you're looking for and explained that it's not a kickdown nor a detent cable.

35520-##### you need to fill in the #'s based on your chassis (RN5,RN6 etc..)

This augments the fluid pressure. It's part of the "throttle link & valve lever" assembly.

If you don't end up finding the actual part, maybe a non-compressing bicycle shifter cable and housing will work instead? My kickdown cable has been cracking apart for 100,000 miles and I've babied it to keep from having to drop the tranny to replace it. All it needs to do is relay the throttle position to the tranny, which doesn't take much force at all. A nice bike shifter cable is usually teflon coated inside and last a long time. Should add about 20HP to the wheels.

You shouldn't have to drop the transmission to change the throttle cable.

The official Toyota part number for the kickdown /detent / throttle cable that I need is 3552035060. It is discontinued.
