Im new to the forum as well as the 22r. Im having trouble accelarating. 1st and 2nd gear runs great 3rd to 5th it feels like i snagged a semi. all plugs and wires have been replaced. any idea what might be wrong? I shift at 3grand can i shift higher? If im going uphill and floor it it goes no where i need to wait untill the rpms drop to down shift. at 3grand in 3rd gear im going 30mph when i shift to 4th the truck almost stops. Idels fine but when starting it runs rich is there any way to adjust carb and does anyone know the factory settings

Have you checked the air filter? Sound like you are not getting enough air. Try running it down the road with out the filter for a bit.

How many miles on the engine ?, it might be time for to replace the timming chain if its never been done, also, does it feel like the clutch is slipping when your accelerating up hill or is there just no power ?.

fuel filter?? I know I have to change mine at least once a year. timing chain should be changed every 100K they say. I didnt do mine until 140K and only becasue I did the HG did i do the TC and guides at the same time

What tire size are you runing? can't go much over stock 28" to have good accleration on 4.10s Not much addressed .Whats your ratio?

im running stock tires and wheels. i changed the fuel filter today and no change. i also did a complete tune up also no change. i just bought the truck so i have no idea about the timing chain. all gears are stock. when i bought the truck i had to drive it 70 miles home. it made it no problem but i could not go over 65mph and when i got to a hill it would drop in mph by at least 10. the truck takes for ever to heat up and then when it does if i shut it off for ten minutes it will will read zero on the temp gauge. what do i need to do when checking the tc and how is it checked. does the timeing change on its own with a chain. I would think there would be no way to skip a tooth

pull the valve cover off, then shine a flashlight down the chain on the exhaust side of the engine. If you see two grooves on the side of the housing, the guides may be broken allowing the chain to contact the cover. If that is what you see, you need to fix it asap or the chain will eventually wear into the water pump area allowing coolant to get into the oil pan.

anyhow. as for the running issue- take the air filter off and look at the front of the carburetor: there should be a sight glass on the side. You should be able to see fuel through that glass (you may have to clean it) about half-way up the glass. If you don't, the float in the carb may be sticking or not set properly. If you do, the fuel pump may be going out.
Also, make sure when setting the timing you disconnect the hoses from the distributor and plug both of them.

Check to see if your truck has a thermostat, if its not getting up to operating temperature, then that could be part of your problem. stock thermostat is
195 degrees.

Hello, Abecedarian may be right with the power. He is porbably more astute than I. But i think with ware in the housing he may be saying that the timing chain and tensioner is so wore that your timing is starting to get a few degrees off. As far as your tempenture in your rig, if you have no heat then maybe your thormostat is gone (not there) or need a replacement. cheep fix! may need both. Good luck.

thank you all for your help and info. I will be doing a complete engine rebuild on a donor motor i have. My frame is solid so i will drive the truck as long as i can so thanks again
