How hard is it to replace that seal? Mine has a hole in it.

I was thinking about that Maybe put a little grease on the steering shaft to let it slide good.

I pulled the old seal off and cut all the old rubber out of it. Then, I cut a piece of heavy duty dirt bike inner tube a bit over size and put a small hole in the middle (just big enough to slide over the steering shaft with a little lube). I put the seal bracket in position and marked the rubber for the bolt holes, made the holes, put in the bolts and trimmed away the excess rubber with a knife. I added a little extra grease to the shaft at the seal to keep it slipping freely. I also considered using a piece of neoprene for this but didn't have any scraps lying around.

I guess my question is do you have to take the shaft out?

Nope, just loosen the clamp bolts on either side of the shaft joint. Slide the joint towards the firewall until you can flex the joint 90 degrees down. Then slide the joint towards you and off the lower shaft. Now the seal comes off easy!

Is that what you needed? (IIRC the top bolt needs to come almost all the way out to clear the notch in the upper shaft.)

Ah...I was trying to figure out who that was.

Let me see if I remember, but it seems like the email addy it gave me was for a educational institution and it did not go through. I tried for 2 days at work and at home and numerous sends...sorry it never worked.

Try again please at thewabbit AT wabfab DOT org and make sure your return email is good. Just email me directly instead of going through Yotatech too.

I do get quite a bit of emails too...and I do try to answer them all in due time, but I'm old and I do forget things.

My apologies.
