Will 88, 89 exhaust fit my 85???

I have an 85 4Runner 22RE and I am looking for an exhaust kit for it (bolt on muffler and tailpipe). I can find kits out there that include muffle and pre-bent tail pipes for the 88 and 89 4runners, but nothing for the 85, 86, or 87's. Check out this link from Autozone. (Walker PN: 46919)

It's exactly what I am looking for, but it's for an 88 model year 4runner. Will it fit my 85? Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a difference underneath the body's that would prevent this from fitting my truck. Maybe it's the spare tire? I've removed mine years ago so maybe it doesn't matter.

And FYI, I'm looking for a "cheap" bolt on kit. This 4Runner only see's daylight during the summer months and I don't put more than 2000 miles on a year.

Thanks in advance for any input!

my trusty (and old) 06 downey catalog lists their exhaust system, which i have on my truck, for 84-95 pu and 84-89 4runner.
i would think it will fit as the only major changes to the runners is the front axle.

So where would the extended cab fit into this simple thinking nomenclature?

the only difference between an xtracab/longbed and a shortbed PU/4runner is about a foot of wheelbase.

Probably true...

But...there is a difference and having an exhaust that properly fits is key. Google "exhaust exiting under truck" and see all the stories that come back with that causing rust issues. These trucks need all the help they can get with rust...

I digress...

Thank you donomite49! That is good information. I can't figure out why other manufactures start at 88 and up and don't include the earlier years, but I guess they have to have a cut off somewhere. I may bite the bullet and try one of these systems for an 88 based on your Downey book. I actually have one of their books as well hidden in a box somewhere. I never thought to check that. Good idea!

Thanks again...

before i laid money down i would check with the seller, you can return it for a refund from them if it does not fit properly.

as mentioned above an exhaust leak or if exhaust dumps underneath the vehicle improperly it will promote rust issues.

the Downey system i have, and was referring to, is a complete system. i looked at the link you posted and that is a cat back setup which may or may not make a difference, such as different length muffler and or cat on different year models.

let us know how it turns out.
