Exclamation Wheel size power loss?

I have the 22re in my 4runner
the tires on it now are 30'
if i go up to 35s, will i have a noticeable difference in power or gas millage?
what about 38s?

yes..I did!!
I have Super Swamper TSL Radial 32 x10.50 15's w/rock crawler rims. I noticed a SIGNIFICANT power and gas milage loss after I switch from my stock rims and BF Goodrich 30 all terrains.
My truck is a 22re w/LC header.

With 35's you would never get out of 4th gear, and with 38's, you would be doing good to get out of 3rd. You would probably want to regear to 5.29 differential gears for 35's and 5.71's for 38's. If you have someone doing it for you, you're looking at well in excess of $1000 for gear work alone.

IF YOU BUY THE GEARS AND BEARING KITS AND PULL THE 3RD'S YOURSELF YOU CAN GET THEM DONE FOR AROUND 150 PER 3RD

Man I think you're getting in over your head. Everyone knows what a 3rd is which is why you didn't get an immediate answer.

3rds are a common name for the differentials in your axles. They transfer the rotational motion of the drive shaft into the axle. In layman's terms, they are the guts inside the big chunk of metal in the middle of your axle.

These 3rds come in different gear ratios. Standard gear ratio for a Toyota mini truck is 4.10 with manual transmission and 4.30 with an automatic. 4.10 means that everytime that driveshaft rotates 4.10 times your axle will rotate once.

If you put 35" or 38" tires on your truck and maintain the 4.10 ratio in the differential then you will find it very hard to start your truck (especially on a grade) unless you are in low range. Furthermore, as already advised, you can forget 5th gear and probably 4th. Also, don't even think about going up a hill over 30 mph because it won't happen.

Hope this helps.

I just installed the rough country 3 in on my 83 truck. 32's are the tire i have on it know might be able to go to 35 but I do not like to cut up my truck. My finished truck was acutally higher then 3 because my factory springs were pretty wore out. BTW the truck lookes 10 times better with the lift i am at work or I would post a pic sorry

OME (Old Man Emu, distributed by ARB USA). I would get springs, shocks, shackles, and pins. It's advertised as 2 1/2" but I got 3"+ and most others have reported the same.

Yes. It will cost around $1100 or so. There are lots of places to buy this set-up. I bought mine from here (no affiliation):

OME products will cost more than others but they are "quality" parts. When it comes to lifts you will get what you pay for in most cases. Keep gearing in mind along with what size of tire you are going with. You will regain some power from re-gearing but still suffer a MPG drop. Honesty, do you expect to go with 38's and it be economical?

why not go with an AAL and just wait for the bigger lift at a later time?

Its not an acronym that I'm very familiar with but I would guess that it stands for "Add a leaf". Add a leafs have a useful purpose in my opinion when used in an overload capacity. In other words, when installed such that they don't provide any lift until the vehicle is loaded very high and then the add a leaf can help suppport the weight. I wouldn't use them to raise a vehicle but that's just me.
