What's it worth?

Long time Toyota fan, but haven't been paying any attention to their pickups for years (mostly Land Cruisers). So, looking at an 85 4x4 short bed with (according to the odometer) 157K on it. Doesn't appear to have any rust, a few minor cosmetic issues, and would need paint to be nice. Has A/C, but no power steering. Larger than stock tires, but haven't even looked to see if it has a lift on it (yet). Owner says it runs fine. It's been sitting in the same spot for about four days - no leaks.

My questions:
1) how difficult is it to add p/s?
2) typical problem areas on these?
3) what's it worth?

I'm going to drive it this afternoon, and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

More info

OK, no lift, BFG A/T 31 x 10.5 in pretty good shape on some ugly aluminum rims. Has the ridiculous stickers that Toyota was so fond of in the 80s - a little paint along with some minor body work and it will look pretty nice. Needs a front bumper. Guy is asking $2300...am I not providing enough info?

is it carb or EFI? extended cab? carbed standard cabs usually only fetch about $1500 in that shape, the extended cab EFI version will bring more money(2500 is typical)

since it dont have p/s id say its carb'd, 2300 sounds high to me. if it is just a plane jane 85 but in good shape, id offer 1800.

Thanks for the info guys. How hard is it to add p/s? How hard to convert (or is this even practical) to FI. Cost for each?

adding power steering, simple, $2300 a little high but not bad. rust buckets run about $1500. look at frame bewteen gas tank and frame for rust.

If you want to convert from carb to efi, you need to at a min, the complete wiring harness, fuel tank, fuel rales, and the high pressure fuel lines, fuel pump b/c the 22r has a mechanical pump on the side of the block, along with a whole different intake mainfold and throttle body possible a new cluster and evap controls ( if that applies to where ever you live)
I would say if you are not looking to spend a lot of money I would leave it stock as a gas and go type of truck. But that all depends on what your real plans are for this truck if you get it.

i havent done a power steering swap myself but a friend did, and hes not all that mechanically inclined. it should be a complete bolt on process, power steering pump, teh steering box then the lines, im sure you could find the whole set up at a junkyard.

Thanks guys - very valuable feedback. I guess the only way I would really consider the FI swap is if I was putting a new engine in. Does anybody happen to know the hp/torque for the two motors?

your average 22R put out 100hp, while the 22RE put out 120hp, give or take 10hp from either engine.

it's not too hard to bring the 22R to the 22RE level, just tuning mostly.

thats sounds about right. i got a 22r carb with p/s and no a/c for 2k. the power difference between the two is really noticable when there both running right. cabr is prob better for off-roading because there are less eletronics to worry about failing and costing a fortune.
