The hydrolocked 22RE threw a rod a week after "the event". He has a parts truck, same year, 1985, with a good running engine (but with a carb). NO PROBLEM!
We pull the engine from the parts truck, and it has a double roller chain. PROBLEM!
We pull the intake and exhaust, and booth sides are round port (22RE is square intake, pear shaped exhaust)
What engine is in the parts truck? After it was pulled, son said the prev owner had changed engines, but that it was supposed to be a newer one.

Can the 22RE head go onto this other block?

 

Still sounds like a 21ru! Got a pic of it??? If it has dome top pistons then no, it might work.

 

84 22R has a 2mm shorter block, domed pistions and a dual timing chain. The cyl head has rounded exhaust rather than the pears, and intake and exhaust will not match up.

So basically swaping the components wont work.

I think your best bet is just switching everything, engine, brain exhaust, whatever else is different. I dont think it would be too hard, cause a bucna stuff is compatible but nothing internally.

no 22R had round intake ports -- it's either a 20R or 21RU
