Exclamation Timing chain?? please help, video's included!

So This is my problem, the timing done was done about a year ago. But recently it started rattleing, chattering again from the case. I figured, it might be the clutch fan bearing because this started after i washed it the night before. So i went off and payed 40 dollars for a new clutch bearing, go figure didnt fix it. So then i took both the pulley belts off started it up to decide wether or not it's the waterpump, or pulley bearings STILL rattle chatters. I'm pretty sure its the tensioner because it ONLY Chatters AT idle, anything over 2grand and its golden? Thanks guys im fresh to this site.

I think it's the tensioner even at a cold idle it rattle, chatters so im pretty sure its not the valves. Around 2grand it stops, only chatters at idle. Can someone please help me? Do a search for "timing chain". There are a few videos showing a chain with broke guides. You can check it with the valve cover off. Also, the consensus seems to think that Engnbldr.com is the place to get them. I plan on purchasing from there.

you can just pop the valve cover and look down the timing chain hole with a flash light should answer your question

the valve cover already has a seal that is reusable just make sure it is still on when you reinstall the cover. Its your best bet to figure out hte problem pop the cover and shine the light down the hole with the chain and see if a guide is broken

When you did the original rebuild... did you buy an entire timing chain kit? So far all of the ones I've seen have modified chain guides made from steel. I'm assuming you either didn't replace the guides or bought a kit with plastic guides. I can't imagine anyone still making plastic guides. Rediculous... definetly one of Toyota's bad moves (suprisingly mine are still ok and they're plastic).

On my 84 I had to use plastic guides. Engnbldr does not make metal ones for my year.

Here's your best source. Also great people to talk to, not many people that will take the time to talk on the phone anymore it seems. Ted will hook you up with all you need.
