tell me what you think
hey everybody, my older brother is looking at a truck, well a 4runner to be correct, here is the link http://fredericton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-...AdIdZ169392941, just copy and paste it into your browser, its an 85' with the SFA, 5 speed and its the 22re, it looks extreamly clean and the price is really good, the rear end is starting to sag but other then that is a great looking 1st generation 4runner, im wanting to know of any problems that this year of truck had, would this be the pre 85 22re or the post 85 22re, things of that nature, any and all thoughts are welcome.

for up there, that's a damn nice looking truck for $4k. if the paint is original, or if it's a repaint but the rust thru has been repaired, or is minor, that's a nice body, for Canada. if the motor doesn't smoke, or knock, and the coolant and oil is clean, i'd do a block and compression test to confirm the HG isn't about to blow. if the 4wd works in all gears, and the hubs lock unlock ok, i'd say that's a deal for $4k.
then i'd get into the details. i'd check:
check doors, fenders for original VIN stickers. repaint? bubbling underneath? check around windshield trim, over fender wells, qtr panels in front of rear tire, bottom of tailgate. these are the most common rot places that would have been bondo'd.
interior looks good. all accessories work? rear window? topper inside trim pieces still in place? i see the wiper there, that's a plus. all switches work? CEL lites with key on but shuts off when running?
a/c works?
engine/trans leaks? visible damage to underside skids/cross members? idle ok? strange sounds? is that undercoating sprayed OVER rust, or is that just orange dirt?
it says SR5, EFI. confirm it's EFI if there's an intake that says EFI on it. then it should be a 22rE. tires look decent. is that a factory toyota radio? what's the condition of the shift boot. that's a good indicator of how well the interior's been cared for over time. wear hole from the driver's right heel? what's up under those seat covers? bumpers, mud flaps, and side steps look original? that's a good indicator of if it's been off roaded a lot. all the glass has toyota logos in the corners? slider windows in the cap: any rot on the black L trim pieces around them? are they flat black, or have they been painted to indicate a full body repaint? tailgate window works from the inside switch and the outer key? spare tire?
looks like a good truck. i'd pay $4k for that, but i'd offer $3500 first.

if your brother likes the price, tell him to go for it....little high on the odometer even in KN's for me though...but looks clean and well maintained from the pics...do the normal check out underneath with a flashlight....One guy did not want me to look at his truck when I pulled out my creeper, flashlight and floor jack
