A.T. Oil Temp, Charge, and Brake light come on every once in a while when driving.
I’ve been having this problem that has only happened once before and happened again today. all three lights came on in my truck and nothing happened but they stayed on for a while and kind of felt like I had a slight loss of power but don’t really know? Anyone if you know the solution to my problem. Much appreciated
Alternator hiccup??
Check the alternator brushes for wear.
Im still pretty much a noob to the whole mechanical side of cars since I am really young with an 85 runner, but besides that where would I check the brushes?
The brush cassette is a replaceable internal part of the alternator.
Wear there is often the cause of alternator failure and sometimes first shows as an intermittent no charge condition.
That wear part can be replaced for 20 dollars or so,
A substantial savings over the purchase of another alternator.

Your talking about the brush pack in the alternator correct? I just did a little bit of research on it.
Ok for sure appreciate the info! I will try and order the genuine brushes and hopefully that will help my problem. I only have 173k miles on the truck so hopefully it’s not the alternator
Usually this is a sign of the regulator going out and overcharging. Whatever you do keep the original alternator and rebuild it. New brushes while there is a good idea too. It's easy.
Well I tried to have my dad’s mechanic replace the brushes and he said to take my alternator in for core charge as my alternator I had was also a cheap autozone or oreily alternator but I needed the truck for school at the time and just got it done. Now fast forward multiple months later the truck has started to freak out even more by constantly flashing the 3 lights and they stay on. The truck started to smell a little funny like make the alternator pully was going and starting to fail and I heard somewhat of a whirring noise, so I decided to head home and parked it. Any ideas please fellow yota wizards I love this truck and want it to be fixed already.
I would get the alternator checked, the failure rate for aftermarket parts is poo, especially for alternators….was the smell a burning rubber/belt smell or electrical??
Im not too sure, I know I dont have any other leaks on the truck so Im thinking maybe it was rubber burning smell since the truck started to kinda make a new whirring noise im thinking it’s the alternator pulley going out like it did on the last alternator and from what I remember somewhat smells the same. I dont really remember as I panicked to get home lmao.

New starters are garbage too. I've had them fail right out of the box.
I don't know about the AT temp light, but the brake and charge lights will come on intermittently when the battery cable in my 85 is loose. Last time there was a bit of crud stuck between the terminal and the battery post, so it really seemed tight.

I do have a little bit of the white corrosion stuff on my battery terminal but not enough to where I think it would affect anything

But would starters throw those lights? I thought only alternator throws those lights
no no I was just saying like the alternator they are a crap shoot these days. I think it's your alternator again.
I haven’t thoroughly took the time to look at it since I’ve had a pretty busy summer so far but I should be getting some free time soon to check it out. It’s also because I dont really work on my truck especially with the pulleys and stuff because I dont know torque specs and where to start by pulling off the alternator lol.
