super noob question

84 22r. i replaced my air filter yesturday and inside my air filter box there are rubber "gaskets" on the top and bottom of the air box and they seem to be glued in. so anyway they are pretty much falling out so i just took them out. the air filter still fits snugly inside, its not like its loose. so do i need to reglue thiese in or can i forget about them?

I don't know the answer to your question but it would probably help a lot to take some pics of what you're talking about.

I'll leave this thread here for now as this doesn't seem to be the typical newb question that is asked.

Good luck and if I find an answer to your question I'll be sure to post up.

ok heres the pics the first two are the rubber seal under where the air filter goes. the third pic is of the underside of the air box lid where there was a rubber seal but it fell out.

you won't notice a difference because it is carb'd but those gaskets just help to seal the intake so all the air has to go through the filter. If you are doing a lot of dirt road or off road stuff you should probably get them replaced but for general driving they aren't crucial

I have a 1984 22R as well. My aircleaner seals are loose just like yours and I fit the mback where they "look like" they'd go.

As far as those seals, the air cleaner housing-to-carburetor seal, and the lid seal goes: I'm very cautious about that.

I've actually sucked in muddy water in and around the air filter and, if it hadn't been properly secured and fastened, that crap would have gotten into the motor.

Food for thought
