Question Stumped by mysterious clutch issue

Hey guys, first post here. Three months ago I bought a 1984 4WD Pickup w/ a rebuilt 22R and the original G54, 151k miles on the truck. I went as long as I could without posting but after reading and re-reading every single post I could find discussing similar issues, every single one seemed to be resolved by something I've already done, and the problem still persists.

The problem is I CANNOT get my truck to go into any gear at all while stationary. If I don't slip it into 1st right as I'm coming to a stop, I have to kill the engine in order to put it in gear.

I have:
Replaced the transmission fluid (the shifter boot was torn, and the fluid was definitely dirty
Replaced shifter bushings
Replaced the slave cylinder
Ensured that there is absolutely no air in the lines
Raised the pedal as far as it will go before the plunger thread starts to come loose

The previous owner replaced the clutch, flywheel, and master cylinder when he rebuilt the motor 10k miles ago.

The shifts feel better and the trans runs cooler after doing all that but I'm still locked out of choosing gears at a standstill. The clutch disengages so high, the bottom 60% of the pedal travel does nothing but when the truck is stationary, it still acts like the clutch isn't fully disengaged.

Any ideas? You guys rock by the way. I've spent probably 50 hours on the forum before this post researching this problem, solving other small issues and planning my build. The information on here is absolutely invaluable.

Thanks and happy holidays!

I'm kinda having the same issue with my 84 2wd. I have not had the trans out and done a clutch, but I'm convinced that the pilot bearing in the back of the crank is seizing up and occasionally doing the same thing. When I start the truck cold.....this is when the trans oil is cold and thick....I cannot get it into reverse without putting it into a forward gear to stop the spinning. Like I said my issue is off and on. But you may want to take a look in that direction. I had the same issue with my dad's truck 2001 Dodge Diesel with the NV4500. When I pulled the trans out of that, the input gear of the trans where it sits in the input bearing surface was all ground up from the needles going sideways. The only other thing I can think of with your issue is that maybe the clutch disc got put in backwards----something else to look into, but that requires pulling it apart...........either way it looks like it is coming back apart for you
