Sleeve for 22re crankshaft pulley
Hey ya'll. I've been told that I should get a sleeve for the crankshaft pulley since I am replacing the front oil seal and an new pulley is around $400. Where do I get this sleeve, and what exactly is it called? Thanks!

instead of using a speedy sleeve, check to see if the parts counter man can match up a different seal to the factory toyota seal that has a different thickness.

Cool, thanks for the part number. I was going to try and find a new pulley, or at least a newer one... But this sounds like a good alternative.
I found it on Amazon, but I will try a local parts store first.

i have heard the sleeves don't last....that's what i heard.
get a seal from your parts store, they should carry a few different brands.
can you see the groove?...probably.
take a sharpie(or other permanent marker) and color a thick stripe on the pulley perpendicular to the groove. with the new seal installed on the oil pump push the pulley straight into its location, then turn the pulley back and fourth a few times then remove. you should see two clear wear marks thru the marker line you made. If either line is on the groove get a different oil seal. That's what i did. My parts stores are usually manned by idiots i wouldn't/don't trust.

My sharpie lines:
Upon closer inspection:
My new seal misses the current groove by .075", nearly 2mm. I still need to add the paper gaskets for the timing cover, so that will move my new seal .020" closer to the old groove, so I'll still miss the groove. An extra seal came with the engnbldr kit, but I'm not swapping seals around at this point.

Holy cow! You needed a different seal for that little groove? I've just replaced seals with new factory ones, on deeper grooves than that, and not had any leaks. Granted, I do try to put the seal riding in a different area by going deeper or shallower in the seal recess...

Keep in mind the manufacturers such as Toyota, have changed the part number and discontinue old seals so new seals are made to contact in different places to avoid hitting the same groove.

Sleeve worked for me too, on my old 20r and the grooves were much worse.
Carefull with using different seals, a parts pup gave me a thinner seal that I didn't catch and it blew out while driving.
Big cloud of smoke with oiled up rear tires while back end was sliding back and forth out of control.lesson learned, I never install a part without comparing with old one.
A big save for sure that could have easily turned out much worse...

I just put a seal saver from LC engineering on my rear main as it was grooved but not leaking and it is still not leaking after clutch replacement..... I don't see how it cannot work being it is so thin, stainless and such a pressed on fit. Hope it stays dry.

I used sleeves four times, they all tore out the seal four times. At least the ones I used; didn't go all the way down to the butt of the balancer. The edge of the sleeve rode directly on the edge of the seal and ripped it clean out every time. I landed up just getting a 7mm seal instead if the 12 and it hasn't leaked since. I didn't even go to Toyota, just part mached to the type T dimensions until I found a perfect fit 7mm made by national for about eight bucks. Works just fine.
