Question Rear Facing Seat? and 1 other question.

I want to get a 85 4runner, and I want to know if its possible, and if any of you have reversed the rear seat so it is back to back with the front seats?

Do you have any pictures of it? or if you have pictures of the back seat area so i can see what it looks likes?

Its been awhile since ive had the chance to really look at a 4runner in person.

I can easily weld some kind of frame if i need to in order to do it.

------------

What is the difference between 22r and 22re? Is 22re just EFI?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

If I have any other questions Ill be sure to ask.

haha, I knew someone would!

by reversing the seat, wouldnt I then get more room for packing thing for trips? and still have good leg room for the back passengers. Like i said, its been awhile since Ive had the chance to really look at a 4runner in person, so I am just going off an idea.

How do you figure? Your passenger's legs are just as long whether they are facing forward or back. If facing toward the rear they won't be able to put their legs into the floor board since the floor board goes up just under the seat. Then its bed level behind that. You'll actually have more room in the stock setup.

However, without passengers, the rear seats lay flat just like a pickup bed, giving you just as much room as a pickup.

If you need more room than what's in a 4runner, then build a trailer like mine:

OR,.........................................Build a Suburban

Well i was also thinking of putting in buckets and 4 point harnesses for all 4 seats, and since the buckets wont fold down that is one of the reasons.

I think another reason to my question is due to me wanting a mid-size crew cab longbed truck, but as we all know in midsize trucks, the bigger the cab the shorter the bed. I thought of buying a mid-size regular cab long bed truck, and just put a rear facing seats in the bed; so i would then have room for extra passengers and still have a bunch of room for packing, so maby now you see where I was going with the whole seat reversal thing?

and I have thought of building a Saburban, but I dont want to get stuck on a trail beause my rig is too big, full size rigs tend to get the most damage on a no damage trail.

I guess I just don't see the point. Rear facing seats or not, they still take up the same amount of room when it really comes down to it. Besides buckets in the rear would be too tall, and would hit the top. Not to mention having their heads above the top. Only seat that will fit like that in back would be some old subaru brat seats. Still don't see the point of that if you want you passengers to actually be comfortable though.

FWIW, I pack mine for a full week on the trail, and still have my family of five inside. How much stuff do you actually plan on taking on a trail? Reason for the trailer is because i take my dogs, and they ride in the back of the 4runner and the camping gear goes in the trailer.

Thanks for giving me your input! I plan on doing the same as you; week long, about 4-5 people, and since I wont have the dogs in my vehicle, ill definetly have the room!

Thanks again!
