Ranger type jump seat in xtra cab?

Every once in a while I need to carry a 3rd person for short distances.

I measured and there's no way the rear seats from an 89+ xtra cab will fit in the smaller 84-88 xtra cab.
I'm thinking about trying to install a sideways jump seat like the ext. cab Ford Rangers have, just on the passenger side and take out the shelf that is there now.

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

Problem is that our pickups dont have as much space between the inner and exterior body panels.
You could find a junked ranger and chop the interior steel panels out and hinges and whatnot out and try

Where are you going to fit someone in a Xtra-cab? There is not enough room to fit a toddler back there.

Rip out the buckets and throw a bench in. It bolts right up.

I had an '84 X-Cab and tried one out of a Nissan, what a waste of project time.
I was trying to get room for a car seat back there. Unless there is no one in the front passenger seat or has had their legs amputated there is no way to get anything but a bag of groceries or cooler in an 2nd gen x-cab

Haah what truth! The selling point on my XtraCab was the extra part to cram friends in... as soon as I saw the interior that idea went out the window.

You can do what I did, throw a campershell on the back and limo tint the windows. Throw some carpet back there and you're good!

yeahh i agree, i used to ride in the back of pappys 95 ranger when i was younger...dang i hated those rides...

but to the op, do you want me to mesure the jump seats, extedned cab demensions etc from my dads ranger, and compare them do the dimensions of my xtra cab to see if this might be do-able?

thanks for the offer but I've already been convinced that this mod wouldn't be worth the effort. If the rear passenger is going to be uncomfortable in a short trip in a jump seat, then they are just as well off sitting in the middle of the hard shelf which means no work for me
