Quick question about injectors..
85 4Runner EFI
What is the deciding factor to when they fire?
Reason I ask is cause I have a no start situation on my freshly rebuilt motor and I have good timming, spark, and compression. I can smell fuel shooting out from the cylinders with no plug and out the tail pipe. Plus I tried getting it to at least sputter with some carb clean blasted into the intake while cranking. I'm thinking maybe the injectors are firing at the wrong time maybe...

The ECU controls when, and for how long, the injectors fire.
Besides what you've checked, and assuming all the injectors are getting enough fuel and spraying it properly, the FSM says:
SYMPTOM-DIFFICULT TO START OR NO START
Check for diagnostic codes
Check for leaks in the air intake line
1.Hose connections
2.PCV hoses
3.EGR system-EGR valve stays open
Check the ignition timing
STD: 5 degrees BTDC @ idle
Kinda hard to check the ignition timing if the engine won't start and idle, right?
Sorry.
Check spark plugs
No start
1.Spark plug(check for spark and correct gap)*
2.Compression pressure*
3.Injector-Leakage
No start-All plugs wet
1.Injector(s) shorted
2.Injector wiring between resistor and ECU shorted
3.Cold start injector-Leakage
4.Cold start injector time switch
Check the air valve opens when cold(below 68 degrees)
1.Air valve
2.Water hoses
3. Air hoses
Check the EFI electronic circuit using a volt/ohmmeter
1.Wiring connection
2.Power to ECU
(1)Fuseable link relay
(2)Fuse {EFI 15 amp}
(3)Main Relay
3.Air flow meter
4.Water thermo sensor
5.Injector signal
(1)Injector wiring
(2)Resistor
(3)ECU
* I know you checked those already.
See the YT wiki page 84-85 FAQ for how to download the FSM.
