Preparing for a New Engine

My 1985 4Runner 22RE-C is running fine at 280,000 miles, but I feel that I need to get prepared when the motor goes. I have not done a compression check yet, but it is running just fine so far. I am looking for a few reputable machanics or shops in Southern California. I plan on replacing the engine with a plain vanilla 22RE-C engine with no mods. Any best practices on having someone rebuild or buying another 22RE engine?
