Other forums?

I feel like posting this is about like asking your girlfriend "Hey, is your sister dating anyone?"

I may be spoiled by the 100-Series sub-forum on 'Mud - and maybe that one's the outlier and this one and the "95 and Older Toyota Tech" forums are the norm. Is there another forum out there for the older Trucks and 4Runners that's more active?

More like you want to cheat on your hot girlfriend, lemme guess, it’s not you it’s me?

Kidding aside sure, plenty of sites out there but none that I have found for the older yotas. Google it up man.

YotaTech is probably the most active forum for our Trucks at the moment.

I am usually on here but I do look at the "95-older Toyota Truck Tech" section on IH8MUD too.

I used to look at Toyota-4Runner.org, but stopped after their forum got hacked, and the admin and staff just shrugged it off.

I think I know what you're saying. This forum looks like it was much more active about 5 or more years ago. Now kinda dead compared to other automotive forums I participate in. Seems to be a lot of people who read but not a lot who comment.

I have noticed significantly fewer people are active here than when I joined in 2013, however this forum is still my favorite.

I think the combination of having fewer of these trucks on the road combined with the massive collection of information posted on threads over the years that you can search probably doesn't help the activity much. There are many people who look at YotaTech all the time and usually find the information they were looking for when searching, so they don't feel the need to post.

Well said. I’ve spent a ton of time searching, reading and looking on this site but haven’t posted much because most all of my questions are answered somewhere on the forum. I also haven’t posted any how-to or tech write-ups because just about anything I could add has been covered.

That said I try to help if I can and will post questions when needed but there isn’t a big need for it.

Happy Trails,
Winky

I am not usually one to say negative things about another forum, but I found Pirate to be pretty annoying. Many of the threads I have come across doing a search spend most of the thread arguing, flipping each other off with the "flip off" smiley and other childish stuff. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of good information on Pirate, but weeding through all of the stuff that really has nothing to do with the original topic just got old. You don't really find that here and is why this is my favorite forum!

@old87yota I totally agree - Pirate is definitely hardcore, but a lot of the guys are just trying too hard - We get it. You have a locker.

When I got the '84 Pickup, I didn't even consider Pirate - just no interest in feeling like I have to shotgun a Monster every time I ask a question. This site and https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/95-o...truck-tech.22/ seem to work - every question is either answered with a little searching or a little patience.

Here is the most active early truck forums I know of. These rigs just aren't as popular as they used to be and peoples creativity has kinda died down these days. Mud has good info but is so Land cruiser based that I haven't bothered joining. I just lurk there. I also just lurk around t4r.org because they're mostly third gen but a lot of the info at least applies still. I certainly agree both on pirate and the facebook gorups. Pirate guys hate everybody that isn't locked and SAS with 37s or bigger. The face book groups are overwhelmed with tire size questions and have no organization. Every now and then somebody post a question that is actually good, but then every person to comment has to be right, even if their not. The other groups are just around for the likes and IG photos. I'm a member of a few runner pages but YT is still my go to.

I am sorry I took this thread in that direction.

This "other forum" word combination, it baffles me..

The individual boards may have put in the work to see where they stand, but even the "leader" wouldn't give out the numbers. Just kind of the way the web has gone *shrug*..
Google or something might know. I don't remember how to alot of the more advanced searching from a mobile device.

Forums all have a bit of a uh "flavor" to them, part is the intended audience and the rest is the "living" organism that audience creates.

It's almost 35 years since the 1985 model year. Some would say "It's all been done", there is a lot of information out there. The innovating vendors are all(?) Represented equally across the boards I expect..

I have found useful information on all of the sites at one point or another, but Yotatech is the only one I've registered at. I like the community here, and I'm doing my best to become an active member and keep things trucking along.

Definitely the case with so many vintage cars, trucks, bikes, etc. I saw that happening when I was playing with CJs - '70/80s stuff - all been done.

Ironically, so much of the info is now outdated - the questions were answered so long ago. I keep searching and finding stuff that's not available anymore, e.g. dead links, businesses that are gone or moved to more popular/newer trucks, products that have been cancelled. It all just makes these trucks that much cooler!

The number of threads out there where the OP never returned to state his fix or if he even fixed it is extremely frustrating for sure, and can make it tough to find any solid info.

I find the other sites deal more with what doodads you can bolt onto your shiny new Toyota and not much of folks actually troubleshooting and working on their older Toyotas as I see here. JMHO
