oil leak out of dipstick?
After trying to find a weird oil smell after i run my engine kind of hard I found oil leaking down the dip stick tube and getting all over my engine block and i think some of the oil is burning off from the exhuast being right there.it the stick fits pretty tight in the tube(rubber seal) My friends 22re dipstick fits very loose and never leaks. Could i have a bad PCV valve not venting the engine right?

yea im pretty sure it has.I never overfill. I just rebuilt it not that long ago so everything is clean and i could actualy see the oil leaks. my valve cover and distributor o ring dont leak so i know its my dipstick. Oil residue starts at the top of the tube.

I have something similar.. My breather hose on the cover towards the back is leaking.. Along with the rear screw which holds the cover down.. My dipstick has leakage also.. i have ordered the two hoses and a new PCV valve.. Once I put them on I'll let you know..

I replaced these parts (PCV, gasket, half moon seals, grommets) and the leaking of the valve cover has stopped but the dipstick was still covered in oil.. Actually, I discovered its the power steering pump leaking.. Tonight, I'm changing it out.. I guess the fan was blowing Power Steering fluid over the dipstick.. Also learned I need to use ATF instead.. Flushing the system tonight also.. Just some info..

I finally figured out whats been leaking... it was a loose 14mm timing chain cover bolt
. The one bolt you cant get to without taking off the power steering pump assembly and distributor. Tightened it up and now oil doesnt run down the front and down the block to the transmission. I thought i had a bad timing cover seal and bad rear main. Its amazing where leaking oil can travel. I felt just as dumb as when i had an "exhuast leak" that turned out to be a spark plug not sealing
