thanks for all of the input.
yeah, 235's is the route to go.

Mine is Smittybilt. The bumpers and nerf bar (thats what they called them back then) are also Smittybilt. The chrome one on infinity's is probably a factory option. The 1985 brochure shows a few trucks with it.

do they not make them anymore because on their website they only have new gear and i didnt even see the roll bar in the back of your truck on there. Thats the trouble i am having lately i cant find them on websites. Are they really called "roll bars" or something else? Because i cant seem to find a place that sells them online (as stupid as that sounds) that looks legitimate. But then again i am very new to the truck scene so sorry.

Congrats! That's a deal of a lifetime! I thought my '85 Runner I bought for $900 was good but your deal is unbeatable! Also good to hear that you did something for him in return.

Good luck building it.

well, pulled motor then head and oil pan. whoever put this motor together loved the orange rtv, it is on the water pump/intake manifold/valve cover and yes even the head gasket. the gas is super funky, instant dissyness. valve cover off = rusty cam and rockers BUT it is a new head (i dont even think 1/2 hr runtime).
pistons (upper look good). oil pan off little rust on crank and block but not pitted. put a wrench on the crank and broke it free turns without friction or resistance/scraping. and lots of timing chain tensioner plastic in oil pan and everywhere else. will post picts tomorrow, going to take shower.
oh on side note we pulled the roll bar out, truck looks much better off (might just be the chrome) but i am going to set it up in my 80 for when i go elk hunting to mount up a winch to it for loading those big elk in the bed.
also if anyone is looking for spare rims (the ones in the picts)3 of them we are looking for some black steelies. one of the alum wheels has a 4" chunk out of the lip so only 3 are good.

Back in the day the paint was oil based so its durable, especially compared to the water based crap we have now

the other motor me got with it has good looking rockers so i think we will use them. he is going to put a cam in and we might put new pistons/rings/etc in it as well. just waiting on funds to continue with the project.
