My '85 4Runner build

Hi guys. I started a thread in the "Check Out My Truck" section, but I didn't really read the rules very closely. I glanced right over the part that says no one else could post on the threads except the OP. Oh well, here is the link:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f77/...runner-137084/

I'm new to this and really want some feed back and to ask some questions and hear some opinions.

One problem I noticed with my truck is that the T-Case doesn't like to stay in 4L. It will pop out pretty easily, especially over rocky terrain, or when I'm changing gears or touch the clutch. I have to hold the stick down while driving over rough sections just to make sure it stays engaged. It's a distraction. My friend says it's just a spring in the case that's probably old and shot. Any ideas?

If that's the cause, is it easy to replace? Or should I wait until I do the gears to take care of it?

I also want to start doing my body armor, while I still have a body worth protecting. My brother may be getting a welder, so we may tackle the sliders ourselves, but I'm not sure about the front and rear, as they're more complicated. I don't really care about looks too much, but I also don't mind spending some extra money to make it look good. I'm thinking about buying everything through Marlin Crawler. Are there any other better deals out there?

Thanks!

you need a heavy duty spring for the shifter. Marlin has them. That would solve your t-case popping problem.

i used to have the same problem as tom cat, the heavy duty springs wont work for this application, the problem is he has a body lift like me, and with the body lift the shifter hits the shift boot rubber and metal frame. i had to take the shift boot off and trim some of the metal and rubber away, so the shifter would fully engage. with the shifter hitting the shift boot it dosent click all the way into gear, and pops out easy.

Oh really? That's cool, I'll definitely get on that soon. You wouldn't happen to have any pics of your modifications, do you?

And if that doesn't work, I'll just replace the spring when I do the 4.70 Marlin Crawler gears.

Thanks for the advice, both of you.

Thanks!

The badge fell off. Luckily it was parked at the time, so I still have it. Just need some double sided tape and it'll go back on. Just wasn't high on my priority list.

theres a pic of my shift boot in my build thread, if you look closely, youll notive the metal part that goes across the shift boot in the middle is gone, and there is a hole in the rubber in front of the 4wd shifter.

i can post a better pic if that one dosent help.

Oh okay, I see what you mean. I never had the console apart, so I wasn't sure what it looked like stock.

Thanks again!
