Another winch discussion
Rig: 84 pickup short cab regular bed.
Which winch?
- Warn M6000SDP (short drum) with 100' x 1/4" synthetic rope
- Superwinch EP9.0 with 100' x 5/16" synthetic rope
Either one would be purchased new.
The advantage of the M6000 is that it would be lighter, smaller, and slightly less expensive. It should easily meet all of my winch requirements, unless I'm trying to tug a very stuck land cruiser or other fullsize rig, but I wouldn't have the weight/traction to do it without tying down anyways. I'd also have an extra 50' of 5/16" steel cable to make a winchline extension or whatever.
The advantage of the EP9.0 is that it would be 2x what I feel I need. It's fullsize, and it would come pre-installed with synthetic line (via winchline.com) A few more bucks, but not significantly so (less than $100 difference). Apparently the brake is outside the drum so it won't heat up the rope as much.
Comments?

Hmmm, thanks for your comments. I'm leaning towards the bigger, more overbuilt unit. Faster line speed is gonna be a good thing. The small weight penalty isn't that big a deal.
When I finally order the EP9.0 I'll likely remote mount the solenoids under the hood.
