Manual Steer Gearbox for 4wd pickup?

Hello,

I noticed the gear box on my manual steer 1984 Toyota Pickup 4wd solid axle is leaking fluid. I figured I'd just go ahead and replace it but come to find out that sourcing the part is very difficult. I can find power steer boxes and 2wd gear boxes but no manual steer 4wd. Does anyone know of any company that sells re manufactured ones? I've considered the power steer conversion, but my first choice would be keeping it manual steer (I kinda like it). Has anyone encountered this issue - leaking gear box? I see that they sell rebuild kits with new seals. I haven't identified from where on the gear box it's leaking yet. If I can't find a new part maybe I'll try that. Has anyone rebuilt them before? How'd that go? Any tips? Going to check junk yards too, but I'm not holding my breath finding one that fits.

Thanks!

Sorry you never got any replies. If you are still looking I'd say just reseal it. That's usually all they need and it's not hard to do. The places that rebuild them typically want your old one to rebuild. IDK if I would trust sending mine in.

If you did find a place to get one post up in case others see this thread.

Get it resealed, I just went through multiple Remans…….after sending mine in for the core, I still hate how my truck drives and I gave up for now trying to find a solution on getting one that felt like my original.

Reman parts in my opinion are garbage and make me want to punch myself in my own face and set something on fire…..but that’s just me

So I ended up buying a seal kit, but unsure if it is for the manual steer or the power steer gear box. The packaging it came in says power steering seal kit: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=7397&jsn=906

Do you know if they differ or if the rebuild kits are the same?

Check out the link for online parts for '84. I selected an RN65. You can change it to be your model/char. Click on the 5 digit part number for a 10 digit part # to use for searching online.

Page 2 is the gear box. Kit gaskets look more like p. 3 power steering box diagram.

The seals, gasket, and bearings p.2 are still available from toyota.
