Maintainance time...
Took my rig into Brakes Plus by my old store (they cut me a hell of a deal on work I don't want to do myself ) and while they were replacing that majority of my brake system (master cylinder, front rotors, wheel cylinder, rear shoes) I had them take a look at a radiator leak that I have. Turns out that I have a hole in my radiator...SO that puts a new radiator at the top of my list of things to do.
Anyways, now to the question, how hard is an electric fan to install and is it worth it to install at the same time as the radiator?
Thanks,
Brandon

i installed a flexalite efan in a lazy hour. no need to do it alongside a radiator replacement. disconnect fan shroud, fan and clutch. drop new fan in, wire it.
on my tacoma, i noticed an increased throttle response, and maybe slightl;y more power in mid to high rpms. in the 4runner, performance gains were less noticeable. however in both cases, the water pumps life is probably prolonged. i am amazed at how infrequently the fans come on - i have the thermostat set properly, but the fans only come on in city traffic conditions on hot days. i periodically tweak the temp set dial to engage the fan, just to make sure it still works properly. no fan at all in the winter.
i am on the fence about this mod. the performance gains are slim as i noted, and i carry my old fan clutch with me on the trails for backup. i may just reverse the mod at some point so i can stop worrying about it.
