I would defenitly recommend a new leaf pack... I have a 3 inch leaf from downey and I really enjoy the way they ride and wheel... Have been on for a year and a half and no issues to date...

springs would be a great way, but rear blocks and front shackles would probably be cheapest. I have a 3" body lift, but it was on before I got it, rather have a suspension lift though for better travel, depends on what you want to use it for the most. You can get rear blocks, u-bolts and shackles for about 50 bucks.

i'm guessing your 87 was lifted and your taking the rear springs from it, which is why you are only concerned with the front, so why not take your stock rears and put them up front?

Rears up front is one of the more common ways to lift a rig inexpensively.

Putting the rear springs in front will move your axle 2" forward, the locater pin is 2" off center than front spings. Gives ya a little more tire clearance for the bigger tires mostly rub on the back lip of the fenderwell. Cheapest would probably shackels up front, but try to angle them @ 45 degrees for most suspension movement. Rear blocks would probably be the best for cheapest.

yes, it depends on the spring pack, if you just throw them up front i believe it wont hold the weight of the engine and it will sit stock thats why most people add a leaf from other packs to get the desired lift.

It is a good mod, however requires hysteer. And if a new spring hanger isnt used you may have bad pinion angle, but you can use wedges to ease it.
