Has anyone just installed better leaf springs, I don't want a lift just something beefy like diesel springs? I have a 84 xtra cab bone stock.

It is my understanding that Alcan Spring will make leaf springs anyway you want them. You might try them.

Alcan is going to cost you though, might look into OME springs, not sure if they make anything with zero lift but they make heavy duty springs with very little lift.

Yes, the OME 2" lift springs are a good option. One reason the stock springs ride pretty rough is that you have almost no up-travel, especially up front. A little lift will give the suspension room to move and soak up bumps without bottoming out. Here is an '85 4Runner with the OME springs and I think 30" tires:
Hardly can tell it is not stock.
The other option is some replacement springs from JC Whitney, they are supposed to be fairly good.

Guys, I'm a big fan of OME and have the them on my 85 4Runner. He said he wants minimal lift and I got 3+ inches. In fact, I had to install a drop draglink because the lift wouldn't work with my OEM draglink.
OME makes stock height kits for the 80 series landcruiser but not for the gen1 4Runners.
Here's a photo of OME's on an 85, heavy front and medium rear.

I recently put OME medium duty springs on my '85 pickup and it was closer to a 3 inch lift than the 2 inch they advertise. The truck also sits a bit tail high. On my other '85 pickup I have the Northwest soft ride springs and it was a 2 inch lift. Both suspension system's ride quality were superior to the stock ride. Just don't make the mistake of using Rancho 5000 shocks.

I would get Alcan springs for the truck. I just got some for my '01 Nissan Xterra and love them. true they might be more expensive....but well worth it. My were around $240 per spring
