Hood Hinges

A question about hood hinges. My truck sat for most of a year under a tree. From what I can tell the little Mesquite leaves etc. got into the air vent at the base of the windshield and down into where the hood hinges are. The hood doesn’t open as easily as it originally did. Is there access to where the hinges are?

Thank you

If you are referring to the cowling plate its held on by 3 screws and 2 pop pins, unbolt the windshield wipers and lift it off. here's a pic of my truck after I pulled the cowling plate and cleaned everything out.

if you want to pull the hinges off to clean them they are held to the firewall with 3 bolts.

I'm hoping t access the pocket where the hinges are below where your picture shows.
Or maybe a drain plug below that pocket so I can drain out any wet leaves etc that are probably bulit up in there . . . before it rusts out.

thanks for the response now I know how the replace the cowling.
Maybe I'll put some small hole screen in there too.

Toward the bottom of this thread https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...trucks-286766/ it shows the drain holes at the top of the cowl and eventually will lead to the rear part of the fenders.

If I recall right, the hinges sit inside a metal case and are not exposed to the cowl area. My guess is debris has gotten inside the hinge and the case covering the hinge or the hinge has just rusted up inside the case.

That drain port is what I was hoping was there Thank you.

The post you did on the A/C system is excellent.

Thank you

Saturday 12/10 update. During the week I removed the cowl and the black screens under the cowl. I got the truck to the car wash today and hosed out the cowl area and shot a pressure stream into the hinge area – from under the hood and down into the hinge pocket from the vent hole above the hinge. A bunch of black water and lil leaves flowed out. That pretty much freed up the hinges. Tomorrow I’ll spray some lithium grease into the pocket to keep it lubed. Problem solved.

Glad to hear things are working out for you. The cowl does catch a lot of crud in it and it can go in several places.
