High Pinion 3rdwont fit?

Hey guys..... I put a high pinion front 3rd in last month. It is a Marlin Crawler with a grizzly locker. Durring the origional install I snapped a couple studs. So I took it out today and replaced all the studs with an eliminator kit. Now I cant get the 3rd back in. It looks like I need to trim the slot for the ring gear, but it fit with no problems before. I am quitting before I take a chainsaw to this thing but could really use some help before I try again tomorrow. Thanks!

Sometimes the studs aren't just perfect and the holes in the diff aren't quite lined up. You shouldn't have to cut on the housing. Perhaps message the diff with a rubber mallet.

Usually you can jiggle the pinion flange back and forth a little to move the ring gear teeth into just the right alignment to slip into the two slots on the housing. But to make life easier, I hit those slots with the edge of a grinder wheel and open them up just a hair. Likewise, I hit all 10 flange bolt holes with a drill bit about 1/32" larger to make it easier to fit the diff over them. Hard enough wresting a bulky 60lb. hunk or steel into the axle without having to fight a tight fit on top of that.

I like that solution. I wiggled every which way and beat it like it owed me money with my small mallet. Hopefully if a cool head don't change thongs in the morning, a little grinder treatment will. Thanks gents

i just had the exact same problem. i bought a rock assault front axle with the eliminator kit and one of the holes didnt even line up. so i pulled one of the studs. pounded the hi pinion on with a mallet and put a bolt in the empty hole. it made me really mad that i spent 700 bucks and the holes didnt line up.
