To answer your questions slow-mo i have not adjusted the float level yet. Since my last post I have discovered a vacuum leak at the base of the carb with the help of a lil carb cleaner. After this discovery i have bought a carb kit and pulled the carb. Do you have any tips on adjusting the float? Carbs are like New pplanet to me.

 

Oh and this carb had developed these issues shortly before the old motor bit the dust.

 

Just follow the factory procedure and bend the tab.

I followed the factory manual to measure and set the float, but the fuel level was still off. So I just bent the tab to correct the fuel level.

If after you rebuild the carb and you set the float level and you find it is still incorrect, you can separate the top half of the carb while it is still on the intake manifold.


The hardest part to a carb rebuild is all the external linkages. Take a lot of pictures of all those things. The internal carburetor is very simple.

 

well I followed the factory procedures and rebuilt the carb. After reinstalling the carb and trying to crank the truck... NOTHING!!! I noticed there was no gas in the sight glass so obviously its not getting the right amount of fuel. I set the float at 9.5mm just like the specs said ( before doing so it was around 2.5CM ) am i missing something here? Can this be fixed by adjusting one of the screws or do I have to just keep pulling it off and on bending the float tab til I get it right?

 

You could very well have a stuck float needle. When the carburetor is dry, the needle can stick. Then you would have no gas in the float bowl.

Even with setting the float height to stock specifications, there would be some visible gas in the window. It may have been high or low, but it would be visible.
