I am looking at a truck on CL but it needs a new front driveline.Its a 1985 SR5 4x4 22RE 5 speed.How much would it cost for this?It also has a couple other minor issues so could anyone tell me about how much it would cost to get it in daily driver condition?

As a project that looks like a steal to me, if I had the cash I'd pick it up in a second. And the price depends on what exactly. From the looks of its in need of a front driveshaft, if he also means the front axles that's going to be a pretty penny. So talk to him, find out the dirty little details.

 

That doesn't sound to bad. And for the price, it looks like a pretty good deal. Having Cross over steering is a Great Improvement over stock, assuming it was installed correctly. Same with the Chevy 63's in the rear.

Shackles are Super Easy! and relatively cheap. An alignment will cost you a little ($60?). Front driveline is not necesary unless you want 4wheel drive, but can be added later. Shocks are relatively cheap and very easy!

Depending on all the "Odds and Ends" that it requires, this looks like a decent deal for someone who is willing to tackle a nearly complete project. The next thing I can see in it's future is regearing the axles if you're going to continue running the 33's, especially as a DD!

 

Well he will sell it to me for $1500. Will new shocks in the rear level it out at all?

 

That truck needs less than $500 to get it right. A front driveshaft shouldn't be more than $100. Find some springs on here for the rear for $200 and marker lights? $50. Its a deal.

 

Rear shocks wont change ride height. You will need blocks, add a leafs, shackles, or new springs to lift the rear. He says it has double shackles.. i would just weld the upper shackle to the frame


Shouldnt be hard to fix up, you cant just throw a factory driveline under there though you will need to either make one or buy one that works for the lift.

That is a STEAL that truck would sell for at least $3000 around here maybe $4000

 

I forgot to mention. I paid $85 for a used rear driveline last week. A front should be comparable or less I would think. And with my "4.5inch" HD lift I haven't had any issues with driveline length yet. . . But I wouldn't go any higher w/o extending them!

 

Ok, so where would I be able to purchase most of the stuff?Mainly just a front driveshaft?Also what is a marker light?

There's a good used parts place that I really like in Rancho Cordova, called ToyAuto Mart (916) 635-8900. They really know their stuff!! Or try Rancho Toyota Truck I believe The gentlemen that was answering messages on here doesn't any more, but give them a call! They will ship parts anywhere. . . and should have a lot of what you need.

If you are looking for a second rig to build as a wheeler go for it. If your looking for something to drive to work and back everyday a front shaft is the least of your worries with that rig.
