Frnt Diff took way more oil then specified

So I changed my oil today in my front diff. I did this when I bought the truck two years ago and don't remember anything being odd about the process. By odd, I mean the amount of oil I used corresponded to the quantities specified in my haynes manual. I could be wrong on this....

The point is that the manual says that the front diff takes 2 qts. Today though it gobbled 5 oz. short of a gallon. Is this normal or is something wrong.... I don't know what could be wrong if anything but if so I could use some advise.

thanx

As long as its not leeking give that sucker all that it can handle. Its not like it actually has oil pressure, the extra oil will just provide more lubrication. I would just make sure that you have a well done extended breather line. Im not sure if having a lot of extra oil could adversely effect it when it is submerged in freezing water with a stock breather.

No. No no no.

Assuming your sig is correct, and you have an 85, your axle seals are leaking. That means gear oil is leaking into the knuckles, and contaminating and thinning the axle grease in your birfields.

The axle should never take that much fluid. If the level wont top out where the fill hole is, you have a problem. Sounds like a knuckle rebuild is in order.
