Exhaust...Cat/Muffler choice

I'm getting ready to replace my exhaust from the cat to the tailpipe. Looking at the Dynomax Super Turbo or the Flowmaster Delta 50 with a Magnaflow SS Cat model 94004 or 53004. anyone running a system like this.Like one over the other? Would like a deep tone but not loud.

Thanks for your input

Sounds like alot of people are running Flowmaster. I've been thinking of not running a cat. With a stock manafold no cat and a Delta 50 with 2 1/4" exhaust will I still have enough back pressure? Or is 2'' exhaust better?

2" to 2.25 is prob where you wanna be, your not going to lose all that much back pressure. when you put on 2.5 is where you start to lose it. I'm goin with 2.25 when I get mine on, do you have emissions where you live?If so, keep your cat on.

Corey used to have a bunch of clips of different exhaust tones on his site. This link should get you started www.pnw4runners.net/tando/

If you want to keep the cat just buy a Catco highflow cat from summitracing.com for 57 bucks. I use them on everything. Also the magnaflows are a good choice I had a 80 series on my 22re and didn't sound to bad.

I am running that exact setup on my 1999 4runner, 3.4. I like the sound. It lowered it down but didnt make it loud. I am also running Doug Thorley headers also so i dont know if that makes a difference.

My 85's cat got plugged up from loose internals (probably bounced off the rocks one too many times) so I took it off & replaced just the cat w/ a straight pipe & lost alot of off idle torque...This is with a stock manifold that's been ceramic coated inside/out, & full stock exhaust & tail pipe...

got my Thorley Tri-Y & am putting it on soon...will post back what I end up with.

What'd you end up doing for your exhaust setup?

So you were only going to replace the cat and exhaust for the smog test? The cat might have helped but the rest wouldn't make much difference.

I ran a straight pipe after the Thorley for a couple of days. It sounded like crap. A lot of noise without even going fast. Like parking. What a joke. I took it off and put the cat back on and now it sounds great. I'm using a Bullet muffler. I agree, low end torque felt retarded.

Sounds good Shokk86. Are you running the stock manifold or a header on your truck?

If you don't like 'em quiet, and you wanna do it cheap, I'd just knock it off a few inches before the cat. I'll try to get a vid of it. My manifold gasket is busted but it sounds good and your all's should to.
