engine temp switch.

my engine temp guage kept falling every once in a while. it would work fine then just fall and in a min or two come back up. it would do it at random time for no reason. so i pulled out the old switch and put a new one in and it still does it. so what are the odds its the wire or if it is the actual guage. any ideas? as much as the wire as i can see there are no breaks or shorts anywhere.

Sounds like a bad ground to the gauge. Does your cluster have a tach? You can check the gauge with a voltmeter if you are familiar with it.

Have you yanked apart any of the green plugs on the intake side of the motor? If you did, and you pulled by the wiring, then more than likely you slightly yanked out the terminal from the plug housing. That was my problem.

I pulled the plug back apart to see if that was the case. Look closely and you'll notice the mini terminal inside of the plug could possibly be pulled to far back. You can try and use tweezers to yank it back out all the way... or just try and shove the wire further up the plug's a-hole without bending the wire and fraying the copper inside.

actually i have been talkign to my machanic about some of my problems and i mentioned the switch and he said it sounds like the radiator is surging water through and not at a constant flow. which would explain why the gauge drops at random times. and hwy its running hot sometimes. so i take it in this week and we will see what he comes up with when he goes through my engine

Oh... when you said drops I thought you meant all the way back down to resting point. As if the motor were shut off. My mistake!
