Dying at idle after replacing motor mounts

Seems unrelated, but I managed to arc my ratchet from something (probably my starter) to my frame while doing this. They always say to remove the ground before working on anything...now I believe them. Anyways, it is now throwing code 11 for TPS.

I pulled the plug out and the TPS is perfect, all the resistances are great. Apparently it could also be the wiring harness but I traced the bundle all the way to the ECU and there is no fried wires that I can see. What is the likely hood of frying part of the ECU? The TPS code makes me think I sent high amperage down to the ECU and fried some part of it and it is now throwing the TPS code.

Is there any jumping I can do on the diagnostic plug to test/confirm this? Also what are the odds that I infact fried the TPS even though it is reading correctly?

Going to test the resistances of the TPS at the ECU itself right now

Thanks lol. I have continuity going back through every pin of the TPS harness. So the harness is good...the TPS is good...looking more and more like the ECU. Code 11 can also be related to AC switch but that all works normally still. Interesting enough if I clear the code and then turn the on (but not started) and put my put on the pedal it throws the TPS switch.

Bad news: I pulled open the ECU and see a burned out lead going to the pinout. Good news: I am attempting to fix it! Pictures to come.

Be real careful that your repair does not loosen the solder in the other pins .

Making it a real furball.

Good luck.

Thanks. I am going to try and jump it first before I full on repair it, just to see if this will work.

Well I was able to repair the ECU, but it still won't idle and is still throwing code 11. When I crank it, it just sputters quickly and dies after a few seconds. Is there something stupid I am missing here? It almost sounds like it is mis-firing at throttle but why would that throw the TPS code.

I also notice some possible burn marks on 2 of the voltage regulators, possibly overloaded them from the short?

Well bad news...new ECU came and same issue. Good news, now I have a spare. Going to redo the TPS harness tomorrow and then look more at the TPS itself.

Ok well after much frustration...turned out to be a leak in the intake elbow. I guess I over flexed it while jacking up the engine. $35 later (minus the $80 ECU) and we are back in business.

Glad you found the issue. I hate chasing problems down like that only to find out that it was something minor.

Last year one of my students brought his 86 22re runner into the shop to fix a coolant leak from the tube that attaches to the bottom of the lower intake. While in there he removed the lower elbow that goes from the AAV to the Throttle body. When he was all finished and tried to leave, it would fire up and then die. He was so frustrated and though something was up with the new engine we just installed a few weeks back.

He was ready to hit his head off the wall when I connected the tube in 2seconds and it fired up and ran after him looking and looking and going crazy for 20 minutes. haha

Despite my frustration it was best case scenario. Hell now I have an extra ECU that works.

I was half expecting my issue to be similar to your students, maybe like a pinched vacuum line from raising the engine up and down.

Few pictures for you guys:

Here is why I replaced the motor mounts in the first place, left is a new one, right is probably as old as the truck

The burned out part of the ECU. I have no way of knowing if it was always like this, but it works great now with the jumper:

The jumper:
