okay so my question is, will i be okay for a week if i only have 3 bolts holding it to the transfer case, and 2 bolts holding it to the third member until i can get to the junk yard next week?

 

Why dont you just go to the hardware store and get some bolts? I would trust bolts that arent the exact size over missing bolts.

 

x2. I use to carry a couple of spares in my 81. but a quick trip to the hardware store would be my suggestion as well.

 

Yes, 3 bolts is sketchy but 2 would be pretty risky. You can always pull some off the front shaft (unless that is what you have already done). Bolts are 10mm diameter or you can fit in some 3/8" ones for a temporary fix.

You can get new bolts and nuts at a Toyota parts dealer, not terribly expensive or you can order from Marlin Crawler or Trail Gear.

I picked up a full set of 16 from Toyota and kept my old bolts for trail spares. I used to carry some spare new bolts and had one truck on a trail in Moab lose his front shaft bolts. My spares got him back off the trail, but I never saw those bolts again, so now I only give away the beat up old bolts.

 

okay well heres my problem. i just got this truck like two weeks ago, but anyway s the driveshaft flange that connects to the third member doesnt line up right so i guess the guy only had 2 bolts holding it on. what should i do, drill the holes bigger on the third member so i can get 4 in there or just leave it as the two. i am going to the junk yard in an hour to go get a new flange to connect to the transfer case, but what should i do about the 3rd memebr not lining up?

 

You can redrill the flange to fit the shaft. Just rotate the shaft flange 45 degrees on the mating flange then mark and drill 4 new holes:



Or you can pick up a set of multiple drilled flanges from Marlin Crawler or Trail Gear that have the 3 most common bolt patterns pre-drilled on them.
